Elana Mann will discuss her 2018 exhibition 问责文书, in the fourth iteration of “Stay at Home with Pitzer学院美术馆.” Tracing the relationship of early listening and speaking devices from the seventeenth century to those utilized by modern-day protest movements, Mann’s exhibition comprised sculptural instruments, 乐谱, and a 1960s hand-crafted mega-kazoo-horn, which was on loan from the Folk Music Center in Claremont.

third iteration of “Stay at Home with Pitzer学院美术馆,” takes the form of a conversation between artists Jenny Yurshansky and Kang Seung Lee who will discuss their respective exhibitions (both 2015) and their experience working at Pitzer and engaging Campus communities. Concerned with systems of inclusion and exclusion, 詹妮Yurshansky: Blacklisted, a Planted Allegory explored the official terminology used by the Californian 侵入性的 plant registry—which described plants as alien, 侵入性的, and non-native—as a means to discuss border control issues and immigration. 另外, Kang Seung Lee: Artspeak (Untitled?), took the mainstream compendium of art from the early 90’s as its point of reference to rewrite conventional art history from a queer perspective.

Pitzer学院美术馆 Director and Pitzer学院 Director of Curatorial Affairs Ciara Ennis welcomes artist Hans Baumann to join the Pitzer Community on 变焦 for a talk about his work and recent exhibition Hans Baumann: 5蒸馏(索尔顿海), presented at Pitzer’s Lenzner Family Art Gallery.

5蒸馏(索尔顿海) examines the political frameworks and biophysical processes that created—and now imperil—the largest body of water in the State of California. Drawing from empirical observation, archival research and the artist’s long-term collaboration with the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, this project reflects upon the inevitable collapse of a vast inland sea that has sustained the indigenous people of this region since time immemorial.
